ADHD & ADD
Our trained professional staff will do the initial evaluation if you think your child is having problems with focusing and attention.
If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD and is being treated with medication, there are certain requirements that must be met to continue to receive your prescriptions. There are also guidelines you need to know as to when and how the prescription will be filled.
If your child is on ADHD medication, they must be seen in our office at least every 6 months. Usually this involves either a well visit or a medication follow-up appointment every 6 months so that we can assure the medication is effective without significant side effects. As long as you are up to date on these visits, your child’s prescription can be refilled by calling into the office and requesting a refill. We are not accepting refill requests via the Patient Portal any longer.
If your child is on a stimulant medication (ex: adderall, ritalin), these medications are controlled substances and can only be sent once a month and without refills. Each month you should call our office to request a refill of current medication. You should plan to call when you have 3-5 days of medication remaining as it might take 2-3 business days to get medication refilled. Typically your medication will be refilled by the following business day. If you call late Friday afternoon your medication will not likely be filled until Monday, so please plan accordingly. Stimulant medications have to be filled by MDs, so if your doctor is not in office it will have to be sent to another physician in our office to review and fill.
These medications can be difficult to find at times due to supply issues so it is your responsibility to contact the pharmacy to assure they have the medication in stock or can get it to you soon. The doctors and nurses don’t have any way of knowing where medications might be in stock and we can’t call for all of the patients that we have.
